Karen is from Cincinnati. She has a B.S. from The Ohio State University.

As Community Outreach Contractor for Hamilton County Public Health, Karen supports all the WeTHRIVE! communities through outreach, evaluation, and coordinating a group of partners who help provide resources. Working with so many different communities and groups has been a great experience and very rewarding. “Having traveled throughout Hamilton County, I have met so many wonderful people who really care about the health and safety of their communities and fellow residents,” Karen said. “It has been an honor to work with such passionate and hardworking volunteers.”

Why did you become a Health Educator? “I am what you might call a nontraditional Health Educator. After many years working in the hospital setting in Cardiac Rehabilitation departments as an Exercise Physiologist, I decided I wanted to work on the prevention side of health. When a position became available at Hamilton County Public Health, I took advantage of the opportunity. In public health, we focus on many different areas related to health and safety so I am constantly learning. We are helping communities, schools, child care centers, etc. make lasting changes through policy or the environment to positively impact health and safety.”

What do you like most about being a WeTHRIVE! Health Educator? “Working with a diverse group of people who come together for a common goal. They come from different backgrounds and are resident volunteers, fire fighters, elected officials, school staff, faith-based leaders or the many partner organizations that provide resources.”

Fun Fact:  Karen and her family love to travel, whether it is exploring our beautiful national parks, visiting historical sites or relaxing on a beach!
