Andrea is from Vandalia, Ohio (north of Dayton). She has a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from the University of Dayton and completed a Dietetic Internship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is currently working on a master’s degree in Nutrition at the University of Cincinnati.

As a Health Educator and registered dietitian with Hamilton County Public Health, Andrea works under the Maternal and Child Health Grant to promote and engage child care administrators in obesity prevention programs within child care centers, family home providers, and school-based programs. “I also make it a personal responsibility to live out a healthy lifestyle that I promote, by cooking and eating healthy meals, and making sure to be physically active and laugh each day,” Andrea said.

Why did you become a Health Educator? “I have the unique position in the Health Promotion & Education (HPE) Division of being a registered dietitian while working in a health educator position. I originally started my career in the clinical setting, working on the treatment side of health and disease. Through the clinical experiences, I realized I had a drive to work for the prevention side and to reduce the prevalence of disease and sickness related to poor health habits of our population. Working as a health educator has allowed me the opportunity to marry my nutrition related knowledge together with community health strategies promoted within the HPE Division.”

What do you like most about being a WeTHRIVE! Health Educator? “One thing I enjoy most about being a health educator is the opportunity to build relationships with community members. Over the past three years, I have formed relationships with some of the most amazing administrators and teachers within the child care and school sector. I have learned a lot through them and it is through these relationships that I have learned how to be a better health advocate and educator within our community.”

Fun Fact: While Andrea’s career interests are focused on nutrition and wellness, she originally started off as an art education major in college. When she gets the chance, she loves getting to paint, draw and create things for family and friends.
